Skip

You need to apply for a licence to place a skip on a public road, but you do not need a licence to place a skip on private property.

The skip hire company will usually make the application as Public Liability Insurance of at least £5 million is needed. We recommend you check the company credentials to ensure they are not illegally obstructing the highway.

Apply online for a permit to place a skip on the highway for a maximum of 28 days. You will need to make another application if you want to have the skip in place for longer.

The permit currently costs £40, and it will take us around 10 weekdays to process your application.

If you need to place the skip in a designated bay, you will also need to apply for a parking suspension. This includes:

• Loading bay
• Disabled bay
• Taxi rank
