You must apply online for a licence to operate a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) such as a scissor lift or cherry picker on or over a public road or pavement. You will need a licence for each vehicle or apparatus.
It takes us 5 weekdays to process your application.

Suspensions and Closures
Road Closures
If you need to close a road or restrict traffic movement, such as introducing a temporary one-way system, you will need to apply for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO). It takes us 12 weeks to process a TTRO.
Parking
You will need to apply for a parking suspension if you need to place the apparatus in, or restrict access to, a designated bay. This includes:
- Pay and display
- Loading bay
- Disabled bay
- Taxi rank
Bus Stops
You will need to contact Nexus by email at roadworks@nexus.org.uk if your works will need an existing bus stop to be suspended or temporary stops to be created.
Temporary Traffic Signals
You will need to apply online if you need to place temporary traffic signals to manage traffic.

You will receive your licence by email from noreply@symology.co.uk once we have reviewed and approved your application. You must display the licence on the vehicle or apparatus.
If you need to extend your licence, you will need to submit another application quoting your original application reference.
