Nuisance parking

Find out how to report nuisance parking and how we can resolve the problem.

With Existing Restrictions

Our Parking Enforcement team can enforce existing parking restrictions such as:

  • on double yellow lines
  • in a permit bay without a valid permit during the restriction period
  • obstructing a dropped kerb for an off-street driveway

You can report issues by calling 0191 278 7799 between 8am and 6:30pm each day.

You will need to tell them the nature of the problem and give the vehicle details:

  • registration
  • make
  • model
  • location

Our team can issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCN), but they cannot move the vehicle or contact the owner. You must report any issues directly to the Parking Enforcement team at the time. They cannot issue PCNs for past issues.

Without Existing Restrictions

You can report other illegal or obstructive parking to Northumbria Police, if there are no parking restrictions, by:

This might include things like:

  • parking that reduces visibility at a junction
  • blocking other road users and pedestrians such as parking on pavements

Parking Outside Your Home

We understand it may be frustrating for you if other vehicles are parked outside your home when space is limited. As a homeowner you have no more rights than anyone else to park on the road outside your home.

A vehicle can be legally parked, as long as it does not cause an obstruction or danger, if it:

  • is taxed
  • is insured
  • has a valid MOT

You should contact Northumbria Police if a vehicle causes an obstruction or presents a danger.
