We have designed changes to Jesmond Dene Road to improve safety for the most vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists.
These will be funded with around £2million from government. We can only use this kind of capital funding on projects like this. We cannot use it on day-to-day activities such as repairing potholes or resurfacing roads.
The improvements will be between Castle Farm Road and Ilford Road. They include:
- 5 signal-controlled crossings
- upgrades to junctions at Moorfield, Osborne Road, and Ilford Road
- new cycle track from Castle Farm Road to Moorfield
- building out footway at Beatty Avenue and Sturdee Gardens
