Bus Service Improvement Plan
Our Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) will make buses a better travel choice for people. It is part of the regional North East BSIP, supported by £163.5 million government funding.
It will make using buses:
- cheaper
- easier
- more reliable
We are improving 4 major bus routes into the city centre from communities in each direction. These routes are:
- West Road and Westgate Road
- Central Motorway East and Stamfordham Road
- Great North Road, Gosforth
- Shields Road and Byker Bridge
We have designed these changes to makes buses more reliable and help you move around, while also improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
The plans include:
- changes to give buses priority and reduce delays at busy times
- new crossings to help people reach bus stops safely
We invited residents, businesses, passengers, and others to have a say on the plans in early 2025. We will share more information here as it becomes available.
