You can apply to close a road free of charge for street parties you have organised to celebrate major events such as royal weddings, jubilees, or other significant national events.
Street parties must meet these criteria:
- Only for residents and neighbours
- Only advertised to those residents
- You are organising it yourself
Events that do not meet these requirements, are considered as large public events, and will usually require a formal risk assessment, public liability insurance, and relevant licences.
Licences
If the street party meets the criteria, you will not usually need a formal risk assessment, public liability insurance, or licences to:
- Play music
- Serve alcohol
- Serve food
You will need the relevant licences if:
- You are selling alcohol
- Music is not incidental or is being sold
- You sell raffle tickets before the event or the prizes are worth more than £500
Before You Apply
Before you start your application, you will need this information about the event:
- Your name and contact details
- The location
- Date and time
- A brief description
- Details of any licences you have applied for
It takes us around three weeks to process your application.
