Having too much waste for your bin

If you have too much waste to fit in your bin you can:

• Take the extra bags to a household waste and recycling centre. Check our site rules and access details before attending.
• Arrange a bulky collection of black bags.
• Ask your neighbours if they have any space in their bin.

Remember we do not collect bags left by the bins. If you have too much glass for the caddy, use a glass bank in a supermarket car park or at a household waste and recycling centre.

Consequences of incorrect bin use

We alternate emptying a 240-litre household waste bin one week and a 240-litre dry recycling bin the next. No side waste will be collected and you may face a penalty, from £75 to £200, for placing loose waste next to your bin.

Bins must not be overfilled or too heavy. We use weight sensors which will not allow a heavy bin to be emptied.
Waste should easily tip out from the bin. If it does not tip out easily, we will not empty the bin and will not return for it.

Crews should be able to access bins quickly and easily so ensure bins are easily accessible and free of obstructions, locks, ropes, or chains.
