Blue bin: recycling
All the materials in your recycling bin should be clean, loose and dry. There should be nothing dirty or unhygienic in your recycling.
Make sure to wash and squash items for the recycling bin and leave lids, caps and trigger sprays on.
Place the following items loose in the main part of your blue bin:
- glass bottles and jars (lids on)
- plastic bottles with lids
- plastic pots, tubs and trays (includes margarine tubs, yogurt pots and meat trays)
- flattened cardboard
- newspapers, magazines, and paper
- empty aerosol cans
- beverage cartons
- food and drink tins and cans
- foil (scrunched into a ball)
- rinsed foil trays
- white and brown envelopes (with or without windows)
- biscuit tins and plastic chocolate tubs
Do not place the following items in your blue bin:
- compostable films or plastics (for example compostable cutlery and plates)
- dispose of these materials in your green bin with your general waste
- small electrical items such as toasters, kettles, irons
Take these to your nearest household waste and recycling centre or book a free of charge small electricals collection.
Batteries
You can recycle batteries at most supermarkets and at your nearest household waste and recycling centre
Nappies
Dispose of these materials in your green bin with your general waste
