How to prepare for a bulky waste collection

To make sure your bulky waste is collected properly, you should follow these rules:

Where to put your items

  • Do not put your items on the public path. Make sure they are visible and accessible from the road (for example, your back lane, bin area or in front of your property)
  • Make sure your items are not blocking any communal areas

Make your items accessible

  • Your items must be easy to reach and not locked down

Correct collection point

  • Make sure that your items are at the correct collection point. If they aren’t, you cannot receive a refund

Prepare your items

  • Bag your loose items and garden waste using strong bags
  • Tie timber or branches together
  • Put rubble in rubble sacks. These are sold in supermarkets and DIY shops
  • Bundle up your dismantled items, such as bed frames
  • Keep your soft seating items separate from other items
  • Empty your fridges and freezers of food before collection

List your items

  • List all the items you want removed so no mistakes are made
  • Your list must be the same as the list created when the collection booking was made
  • We will only collect items included in the list on your form

Condition your items

  • Make sure your furniture is dry and covered before collection. Tip: tape bin liners around your furniture as an improvised tarp
  • Wet items will not be collected and you will not be refunded. This is due to wet items being more difficult to carry

Timing of collections

  • Put your items out the night before collection

Be aware of your collection date

  • Crews work Monday to Friday and your collection date is not linked to your green bin day
  • For mixed bookings, only put out items due for collection
