A neighbourhood park at the heart of the Benwell area, donated to the people of Newcastle in 1899.
Hodgkin Park (also known as Benwell Dene) was donated to the people of Newcastle in 1899 by Thomas Hodgkin, a prominent banker.
The park is in two parts, separated by Armstong Road. The north is smaller and quieter, and the southern park more open and refurbished in 2013 to boast a new children’s play area, multi-use games area and water features.
Room In The Park run regular family activities and events throughout the year.
You can find three sculptures within Hodgkin Park – Paradise Gate, Metrolands Arbour and Nine Lives, by William Pym.
During World War II the land at Hodkin Park was used for allotments.
The nearest car park is on South Benwell Road.
The nearest bus stop is on Armstrong Road.
The terrain in the park is quite steep. The most accessible part of the park is at the entrance off South Benwell Road.
Get fit and meet friends at one of Room in the Park’s sessions – everyone welcome.
The play area and water features are popular with families.
There are no toilets within the park.
