A thriving nature reserve sited on the former Hazlerigg Colliery.
The nature reserve takes its name from the Havannah drift mine and three slag heaps that dominate the land. It is home to a variety of protected and priority species including great crested newts, badgers and a variety of birds of conservation concern.
The reserve has a number of public rights of way and permissive footpaths and bridleways and is popular with cyclists, horse riders and dog walkers.
It can get muddy, so make sure you wear a pair of outdoor boots or wellies!
There is a car park on site at Coach Lane.
The nearest bus stop is on Coach Lane.
Get closer to nature and enjoy time exploring the nature reserve with friends and family either on two feet or two wheels.
Take the kids on a nature trail. And keep your eyes peeled for great crested newts!
