Applying for a Visitor Permit

If you are a resident who lives in a permit zone you can apply for a visitor permit. A visitor must place the permit in their vehicle allowing them to park near your property. See where you need a Visitor Permit.

Where you can use your Visitor Permit

With a Visitor Permit, the visitor can park on any street within the named permit zone during the hours of enforcement. You must check the bay is for permit holders.

Applying for a permit

Before submitting your application, please ensure:

  • you are eligible for this permit type
  • you are applying at least 14 days before the permit is needed (if possible)
  • you have the right documents - preferably in PDF or Word format
  • you live at the property you are applying for - you cannot apply for a permit to visit a property, the resident must apply

You do not pay for your permit when you apply. You pay after your application is approved.

Applications for permits can be made online. Only one permit is allowed per property. If you are expecting more visitors, you can apply for scratch cards.

Documents you will need

For your Visitor Permit application, you will need proof of residency at a property within a permit parking scheme.

Accepted proof of residency documents are:

  • council tax statement
  • tenancy agreement (must include start and end dates)
  • utility bill
  • deposit protection scheme letter (must include start and end dates)
  • completion statement or solicitor email
  • bank statement (financial information can be removed)

All documents must include:

  • your name (or names of all tenants)
  • the property address
  • an issue date within the past 3 months

If the start date of your tenancy is over 3 months ago, you’ll also need to provide a dated letter from your landlord or letting agent.

After you apply

You should receive an email within 14 days. Please check your junk/spam folder.

If your application is approved

The email will include a link to pay for your permit. You need to pay within 14 days, or your application may be withdrawn.

If you have not heard from us

Check your junk or spam folders. If you still have not received an email after 14 days, contact us at parkingpermits@newcastle.gov.uk. Include your reference number in the email.

When can you expect to receive your permit

Permits are posted to the permit address in time for the permit start date. Your permit cannot be posted to any other address.

For rental properties, permits are sent within 1 or 2 days of the tenancy and permit start date, regardless of when payment was made.

For permit renewals, you should receive your new permit within 7 days of paying.

While waiting for your permit, you can print your payment confirmation email and use it as a temporary parking permit for up to 14 days. Make sure your payment date and permit reference number are visible.
