The Check in Check out system is now available in several car parks. Using this system you can extend your parking time if needed and can pay by debit or credit card.

Blue Badge Holders
Blue Badge holders can use the check in check out system by choosing the 'Blue Badge' option when paying. You must display your blue badge at all times.
If you pay by card, the amount charged when you check out will be reduced by 1 hour. If you pay by coin, you will get a 1 hour grace period beyond the end time of your ticket.
Using the Check in Check out system
The steps below show how to use the Check in Check out system:
How to check in
- At the pay and display machine, choose 'Pay by card', or 'Blue Badge Pay by card' if you are using a blue badge
- Insert your card or use contactless
- Enter your vehicle registration as shown on the screen
- The screen will confirm you are checked in and print a ticket for your records. You do not need to display this ticket
- Your details are sent to our officers’ handheld devices
How to Check Out
- When you return, go to any pay and display machine and choose Pay by card
- Insert your card or use contactless. You must use the same card you used to check in
- The screen will confirm you are checked out and print a receipt showing the amount charged
Refunds and Overpayments
When you check in, a reserve amount is held on your account.
- this is the maximum charge from check-in until 7pm (Clean Air Zone) or 6pm (outside the zone)
- the reserve reduces every minute, so if you check in close to 6pm or 7pm, the reserve will be lower
The reserve:
- makes sure your card is valid and not stolen
- checks you have enough funds for the maximum charge
This is a pending transaction only. When you check out, the exact charge is taken and the reserve is released.
Your bank may take up to 5 working days to release the reserve. Most banks do this the next day.
Until the reserve is released, your statement may show:
- both the actual charge and the reserve
- just the reserve
- or the difference between the two
Do not fill in the refund form until at least 7 days after you checked out if you think you have been overcharged.
Complete the form if:
- you forgot to check out
- you could not check out
- you did not know you had to check out
- it has been more than a week since you checked out and you still see an overcharge
The refund form collects all the details we need and lets you upload evidence, like a scanned pay and display ticket.
