After you apply
Paying for a Blue Badge
We ask that you pay the £10 Blue Badge cost as soon as you have made your application. This helps us print your Blue Badge sooner if your application is successful.
This payment can be made online Or, you can pay over the phone, please call 0191 278 7878 and ask for “disabled Blue Badge.”
Paying does not mean your application will be approved. If your application is unsuccessful, we will refund you.
If your application is successful
We will notify you via email as soon as we have assessed your application.
If you have already paid for the Blue Badge, we will process the request within 5 working days. Once this payment has been approved, your Blue Badge will be sent to you in the post within 10 working days.
Your badge will tell you how long it is valid for. The longest time it can be valid is 3 years. If you claim Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance, your badge will be valid for the award date of these benefits.
If your application is unsuccessful
We will provide the reasons why your application was unsuccessful via email. If you had an independent mobility assessment we will send you a copy of the report. If we have assessed your application, we will send a copy of our desk-based scoring report.
If you are unhappy, you can ask us to reconsider our decision. To do this you must:
- send us an email within 28 days to bluebadge@newcastle.gov.uk
- include an explanation as to why you think we did not consider all relevant information
- include any new relevant evidence you want us to consider
This will be reviewed by different officer and senior assessment officer who will make the decision.
We will notify you as soon as we have made our decision. If you are unhappy with the result, you can make a formal complaint or tell the Local Government Ombudsman.
