The Safety Advisory Group (SAG)
Your event plan will be circulated to members of the SAG for consideration of any advice they think would help improve the safety of the event.
If more information about your event is needed, you’ll be invited to a SAG meeting. This will be organised by the Events Officer at Newcastle City Council.
The SAG helps event organisers think about public safety. Its role is to give advice, and cannot give permission for your event to go ahead.
The SAG gives advice on:
- making sure each member is qualified to organise the event
- help to reduce risks to people working or attending the event
- support to write a clear event plan
- keeping written records of meetings, agreed actions and advice
- check that emergency plans are in place
- making sure you appoint a suitable Event Safety Officer to manage safety
- holding a debrief and feedback after the event
If the SAG agrees that all safety and management issues have been dealt with the plan then no formal SAG meeting will be requested.
If the SAG feels that safety issues haven’t been fully addressed, then you will be invited to a formal meeting to sort out the remaining issues.
Who is part of the SAG
The SAG includes representatives from:
- Newcastle City Council
- Northumbria Police
- North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
- Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service
- other agencies with an interest in the safety of the event
