Newcastle City Council is calling on residents and businesses to help make this Christmas special for children and young people most in need.

As part of its Evry initiative, the Council has launched its annual gift appeal, aiming to collect thousands of presents for local children and young people.

Now in its third year, the campaign has grown significantly with last year alone seeing donations of more than 1,800 gifts, reaching over 700 young people due to the generosity of residents, Council staff, Evry partners, and over 120 volunteers.

The appeal focuses on supporting Care Leavers, and other children in need across the city with the simple goal of ensuring every child wakes up to a gift on Christmas morning.

Gifts can be purchased online through the Young Person’s Wishlist, which includes essential items such as warm clothing, thermal mugs, and hot water bottles, all items chosen by the young people themselves.

All donations will be delivered directly to the Council, wrapped by volunteers, and distributed in time for Christmas. Donors also have the option to include a personal message to be shared with the recipient, adding a heartfelt touch to each gift.

Cllr Lesley Storey, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, Newcastle City Council, said:

“Every year, we’re moved by the kindness shown by our community, and this year, we’re hoping to reach even more young people who need a little extra support. For many, especially those without family around them, Christmas can be a lonely time. A simple gift, chosen with care, can bring comfort, joy, and a reminder that their city cares.”
