The ongoing success of the Newcastle Youth Fund, managed by Newcastle City Council and supported by National Lottery players through the National Lottery Community Fund, has allocated funding to 24 successful applicants to deliver youth services for the city’s young people.

The projects will run from April 2025 until March 2026 with successful projects including an open access Youth Project in Newbiggin Hall, a Youth mentoring and social action project in Byker, Young women’s project in Elswick and a Life Skills project to support Young Carers. All projects are offering activities to support young people with their mental health, education, life skills and personal development.

The aim of the Newcastle Youth Fund is to support a diverse range of provision across the city for 13-19 year olds – and up to 25 year olds with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Young people are central to the design of the Newcastle Youth Fund and have had a key role in decision making – ensuring young people have a direct say in the activities and services that make a difference in their localities and neighbourhoods.

The successful projects support activities that engage and inspire young people, support their emotional health and physical wellbeing and build community resilience.  Activities also reduce risk taking behaviours – such as anti-social behaviour, create friendships and social connections – and are educational and inclusive.

Councillor Lesley Storey, Cabinet Member for a Children and Families, Newcastle City Council said: “This funding represents a powerful investment in the future of Newcastle's young people. It's inspiring to see young people at the heart of this process, shaping initiatives that truly reflect their needs and aspirations. Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive future for all."

Duncan Nicholson, Head of Regional Funding from the National Lottery Community Fund said; “Thanks to national lottery players we are delighted to be able to support Newcastle Youth Fund and their work with young people. It is particularly pleasing to see young people involved in the decision making as to where funds go. The National Lottery Community Fund is committed to working in partnerships with others and ensuring funds are directed to where they are most needed. The Newcastle Youth Fund is a wonderful example of collaboration and engagement with the sector.”
