Our Adelaide Terrace Welcomes - A creative community celebration event

A much-loved Newcastle high street is set to come to life with a creative celebration to bring the local community together.

Adelaide Terrace in Newcastle’s west end is to take centre stage for the event as part of an ongoing programme to revitalise the city’s high streets.

Newly-installed artworks, videos, and live performances will all be on offer, completely free of charge, for people of all ages to come and enjoy.

‘Our Adelaide Terrace’ is part of Newcastle City Council’s High Streets Project, which has seen the local authority work with local businesses, community organisations and residents to improve local facilities, tackle issues affecting residents, and capitalise on the area’s potential.

A celebration event, Our Adelaide Terrace Welcomes, will take place on Monday 24th February to bring the community together to explore through creativity what Adelaide Terrace means to them.

The event will give residents and visitors the opportunity to explore the area, discover new artwork and installations, and take part in creative activities including drawing, painting, poetry, crafts, photography and much more.

Cllr Dan Greenhough, Newcastle City Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Jobs and Skills, said: “Our High Streets Project has helped to breathe new life into to some key parts of Newcastle beyond the city centre, and helped unite communities and businesses around these cherished assets.

“We originally set out focussing on the east of the city, so I’m delighted this work has now extended to Adelaide Terrace and this event is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, see what we’ve been doing, and have some fun – all with a dash of creative flair.

“Our high streets are incredibly important to our city, and good-quality high streets that local residents can be proud of are vital to enabling us to implement an inclusive local economy that works for all our residents, wherever in Newcastle they live.”

Our Adelaide Terrace Welcomes runs from 12pm-3pm, and will see a number of local organisations taking part. These include St James Church, Patchwork, Farah Chemist, West End Customer Service Centre and Library, Search Pop in Centre,Healthworks and more.

Newcastle Inclusive, Healthy, Vibrant High Streets Project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with the North East Combined Authority as the lead authority and aims to revitalise selected high streets in the city.
