Newcastle Climate Change Forum

The first in a series of climate change forums in Newcastle will bring partners from across the city together to shape plans to tackle climate change and work towards a greener and more sustainable city.

Newcastle City Council is hosting the first Climate Change Forum to bring together business, voluntary and community sectors, public and private organisations and members of the public to discuss Newcastle’s journey towards net zero and adapting to climate change.

The forum, held at the Discovery Museum on Wednesday 16 October, will hear about the council’s work to decarbonise transport and energy and its push for greater sustainability across the city, as well as presentations from the city’s Youth Council members on how young people in the city are being engaged in this work.

Cllr Marion Williams,  Newcastle City Council Cabinet Member for a Sustainable City, said:  “It is important that we all meet to discuss the important issues that affect the city, these forums are an opportunity to focus our collective efforts on the challenges of climate change. This region was at the heart of the industrial revolution, and we’re committed to ensuring Newcastle helps to drive the green revolution too.

“There are organisations across the city doing incredible things to reduce our impact on the environment, and we want to make sure we’re all working together to collectively make the greatest possible difference and bring our whole city with us on this journey.

“Achieving Net Zero is one of our core priorities and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made as an organisation and as a city, and look forward to working together with partners to have an even greater impact in the future.”

Following the first forum held by the council, future sessions are to be hosted by other organisations across the city. The Discovery Museum is a fitting venue for this first forum having recently opened its Steam to Green exhibition, which explores the story of energy in the North East.
