Forming part of the larger Walker Riverside strategic housing regeneration, the development on the land at Pottery Bank, will offer a selection of 42 mixed tenure affordable homes for rent and Shared Ownership.
Following an open procurement exercise, Keepmoat were selected as the preferred contractor. They will build the new homes which will consist of a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom houses, as well as one and two bedroom bungalows.
The proposals aim to deliver a high-quality, landscape led development with a wide range of houses which will suit a variety of residents and needs. New pedestrian and cycle links will be included throughout the site to help improve connectivity as well as communal green spaces.
Councillor Paula Maines, Cabinet Member for Housing said: “We are delighted to have appointed Keepmoat as the preferred contractor for the Pottery Bank development. We want the new homes to best meet the needs of our residents and the consultation event is an opportunity for residents to help inform the plans. We are really excited about the proposals and the transformation of the area.
“As a Council, we will continue to invest in our homes, services and communities to create amazing places where people are proud to live.”
Keepmoat would like to share their initial proposals with local residents and businesses before submitting a planning application to Newcastle City Council later this year. Work is expected to begin on site in Spring 2025.
Ian Worgan, Regional Managing Director at top 10 UK housebuilder Keepmoat North East, added: “We are delighted to be selected as the preferred housebuilder to regenerate the Pottery Bank area in Walker, further strengthening our successful partnership with Newcastle City Council.
“We look forward to sharing our proposed plans for the new homes at the upcoming public consultation event and we are committed to creating a thriving new community.”
The public consultation event will take place on Wednesday 27 November, between 3.00pm-7.00pm at Pottery Bank Community Centre in Walker. This event is an opportunity to view plans and comment on the proposals before they are detailed further ahead of the planning submission.
