Newcastle councillor resigns with immediate effect

Resignation of Brenda Hindmarsh means two vacancies in Fawdon and West Gosforth at May's elections

Cllr Brenda Hindmarsh, a Liberal Democrat councillor, has resigned with immediate effect.

It means there will be two vacancies instead of one in Fawdon and West Gosforth ward at the local elections on Thursday, May 2.

Cllr Hindmarsh was Lord Mayor of Newcastle in 2010.

Her resignation means a total of 27 seats will be contested in the local elections in Newcastle. 

A notice of vacancy for her ward has been published by the council.
