As part of its Evry plan, Newcastle City Council are asking residents and businesses who are able to help them supply over 800 gifts for local children.
The call for donations follows the success of the ‘Best Christmas Ever’ collection last Christmas which saw hundreds of thoughtful items such as gloves, scarves, headphones, and toiletries being donated. These were given out to over 300 Care Leavers and Children in Need.
The initiative has grown this year, and the council’s ambition to do more to support Care Leavers and other children in need.
Items can be ordered online via the Young People’s Wishlist. If you would like to buy a gift, please select ‘Evry Christmas 2024’ delivery address, and the item will be delivered directly to a council building.
The list is made up of items that the young people have said they need most, and includes warm clothes, thermal mugs and hot water bottles. Those who donate can also leave a short message which will be shared with the young people alongside their gifts. The gifts will then be wrapped and delivered in time for Christmas.
Cath Mcevoy-Carr, Director, Children and Families, Newcastle City Council said: “We were extremely grateful for the generosity of the city in making these donations last year and we are looking for their help again make Christmas special for our young people most in need. Christmas can be a tough time for many of our young people, especially those who do not have family around them, and the donations of these essential items will make a huge difference to them.”
