Families are invited to take part in Newcastle’s "Best Holiday Ever."

There are 89 individual providers delivering a total of 119 projects as part of the Best Holiday Ever programme of activities for children eligible for free school meals this summer.

The sessions offer a range of activities to keep the kids entertained from indoor and outdoor games, cookery skills, arts and crafts, sports, fitness and dance, health and wellbeing, quizzes, park activities, nature trails and more, all of which include a healthy meal.

Cllr Lesley Storey, our Cabinet Member for a Growing City, said: “The cost-of-living crisis is still having an impact of families and the summer holidays in particular can increase this pressure on finances.

"The continued work of our partners and colleagues to offer such a wide range of activities and support for our children and young people is fantastic.

“We now have over 80 providers who take part in our Healthy Activities with Food programme which gives some of our children and young people most in need access to fun and engaging sessions along with a healthy meal.

“We would like to thank our partners for helping us to provide this support to families and hope everyone in Newcastle has a great summer.”

Everyone deserves a good break and school holidays are better when there’s a great choice of things to do to keep children and young people active, having fun, being entertained and learning new things.

A part of the holiday activities and food (HAF) programme, Newcastle’s Best Summer Ever helps children, young people and their parents have fulfilling, active, fun-filled and healthy school holidays.

It is funded by the Department for Education for families eligible for free school meals.
