Getting to City Library
City Library is located at the heart of the city centre, on the corner of John Dobson Street and New Bridge Street West. Being in the city centre, the library is easily accessible and has:
- excellent local bus links
- Monument Metro station, a three-minute walk away
- cycle racks available on John Dobson Street, New Bridge Street West and Princess Square
- limited on-street parking available on Lisle Street next to City Library
- parking in Saville Place Car Park (entry from Durant Road) - check signage for fees and time limits

Available facilities at City Library
At City Library, you can:
- borrow books, audio books, board games and more
- browse and borrow a wide range of books for adults and children
- reserve books, toys and board games
- print and photocopy
- use public computers and scanners for up to three hours a day
- get advice on using our BorrowBox app to browse our eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and eNewspapers
- get help with any council enquiries
- use a freephone to contact other council services
The public computers are automatically turned off 15 minutes before closing time

- attend our under 5 Storytime session: Mondays, 10:30am to 11am
- borrow or order a starting school book bag: each bag contains 4 books to help you talk with your child about the school day and how they feel about this big change
- Read, play, craft and make friends at Game Changers social club for 7-11 year olds - Thursdays, 3.30pm (term time)
History and heritage
- learn about Newcastle’s history and heritage
- join our art history club: every first Thursday of the month, 12:30pm to 2:30pm
- come to our practice English group: every Wednesday, 1pm to 2:30pm (The Gallery, Level 4)
Health and Wellbeing
- check out the 'Soundtrack of Your Life' booklet from Playlist for Life at our help point: this booklet helps people with dementia and their carers find special songs
- visit the Wellbeing Hub: meet others, learn new skills and socialise
- find out about 'Reading for Wellbeing': discover the health benefits of reading for pleasure
- find out about 'Reading Well': we offer books to help children manage worries, feel better and boost their mood
