Why we have a behaviour code
We want Newcastle Libraries and Community Hubs to be safe and welcoming for everyone. We expect everyone to behave in a way that is respectful, lawful, and kind to others.
What you cannot do within our libraries and Community Hubs
We will not allow:
- physical attacks, threats, or verbal abuse
- using racist, sexist, or homophobic language
- having or using drugs, alcohol, or other harmful substances
- rolling or smoking cigarettes
- lighting a match or lighter
- using or charging e-cigarettes or vapes
- making loud noise, swearing, shouting, or playing music
- damaging things or misusing furniture
- using the building as a place to sleep
- bringing hot food into the building
- charging anything except phones, tablets, laptops, or electric wheelchairs
- using a library card that is not your own, or giving a fake name or address
- looking at inappropriate content on the PCs or your own devices
- ignoring health and safety advice
What happens if you break the behaviour code
This is not a complete list of things you should not do. If you do not listen to staff warnings or break these rules, you will be asked to leave for the day.
A formal ban of up to 12 months may be considered.
What happens if a crime takes place in our libraries and Community Hubs
We use CCTV to see who is involved in incidents. All crimes and suspected crimes will be reported to the Police.
