What it's like to work in adult social care for Newcastle City Council
Health and social care officers Vikki Rookes and Dale Gibson work for our Adult Social Care service.
“First and foremost you've got to care," said Vikki. "You've got to have a passion for caring and you've got to have a passion for promoting people's independence, for their well-being and a genuine interest in making sure people are happy.
"Every day is different and it really opens your eyes to what goes on around you.
"You get great job satisfaction - I mean you go home every day and know that you've helped somebody. Plus you get paid for doing it - it's pretty impressive to be fair."
"It's something different and it's very rewarding," said Dale. "My mum used to be carer for like 20 odd years and when I had my child just over a year ago, through looking after her, I understood what my mum had told me about the rewards of caring for people.
"I thought I'd give it a go as a career and I'm really enjoying it."
