Connect to Work is a government funded programme ran by Newcastle City Council’s Supported Employment Service. We help people who have always wanted a job to gain and maintain employment.
The Supported Employment Service are part of Newcastle City Council. We help people who find it hard to get a job.
We support people to:
- think about what job they want
- understand what skills they already have
- write a CV and apply for jobs online
- get ready for interviews
- try out work through work experience
- get qualifications
- stay in work once they get a job
Who we can help
Supported employment service can help:
- people with disabilities with and without social care eligible needs
- an offender or ex-offender
- a carer or an ex-carer
- a homeless person
- a former member of the Armed Forces, reserves of partner of AF personnel
- a person for whom a drug or alcohol dependency (or history of) presents a significant barrier to employment
- care experienced young person or a care leaver
- a refugee, a resettled Afghan
- a person on the Ukrainian scheme
- a victim or survivor of domestic abuse
- young people identified as being involved or at risk of being involved in serious violence
- a victim of modern slavery
Training and work experience
We offer training and work experience placements at our in-house services.
Nature Landscapes
Natures Landscapes is a commercial grounds maintenance, gardening and project service. It offers employment, training and work experience opportunities for local disabled people.

FoodWorks
FoodWorks cafe helps gain real life customer service work experience to help increase employability skills.
The cafe is based at Westgate College, West Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 9LU.
The cafe is open to the public Monday to Friday between 8am and 3pm.

The Supported Employment Service can offer advice to employers, such as:
- help to organise interview candidates for your organisation
- help to arrange skills tests
- advice on disability employment
