Housing help if you're affected by domestic abuse
If you're in danger, call 999 and ask for the police.
Domestic abuse is when someone hurts or controls another person in a relationship or family. It can include:
- threats or violence
- emotional or psychological abuse
- sexual or financial abuse
- controlling or coercive behaviour
It can happen to anyone aged 16 or over, no matter their gender or sexuality. It can also include things like ‘honour-based’ violence, female genital mutilation (FGM), and forced marriage.
If you're affected by domestic abuse, the Housing Advice Centre can help you find emergency accommodation and give you advice. We work with specialist services to make sure you get the right support quickly.
Contact the Housing Advice Centre
If you are at risk of homelessness or need housing advice contact the Housing Advice Centre (HAC). They will look at your situation and give you confidential advice to try to help you stay in your home or find one that suits your needs.
If you prefer to speak to someone of a specific gender, we can arrange that for you.

If you have nowhere to stay tonight, contact the Housing Advice Centre. You can speak to an out of hours call handler when the HAC is closed.
