If you see someone sleeping rough

Find out what to do if you see someone sleeping rough, who to contact and what we do.

We want to stop rough sleeping in Newcastle. We believe no one should be homeless and everyone can help stop homelessness. We work every day to help people who sleep outside get the support they need.

We help fund a team that goes out every day to find people who are sleeping rough. We also support a Rough Sleeping Coordinator. When they meet someone sleeping outside, they offer help with finding a place to stay or support to return to their home area.

The Council pays for different types of housing and support for people who might become homeless. This includes help for people with more complex needs. No one has to pay upfront to get a place to stay.

The outreach team also talks to people who are begging in the city. They check if the person needs somewhere to stay or help from other services.
