If your home is bigger than you need, we may be able to help you move.
The Rightsizing Scheme helps Newcastle City Council tenants move to a home that better suits their needs. It also helps make larger family homes and adapted homes available for people who need them.
Who can apply?
You may be able to join the scheme if:
- you are a secure Newcastle City Council tenant
- you live in a 4 bedroom home and have one or more spare bedrooms
- you live in an adapted home that you no longer need
- you have no serious tenancy problems
We may also be able to join the scheme if you live in a 3 bedroom home with a dining room. These applications will be considered on a case by case basis.
We will check if you are eligible before accepting you onto the scheme. and let you know. Acceptance onto the scheme is not guaranteed and is at our discretion.
What help will I get?
If you join the scheme, we can help you:
- find a suitable home
- understand any financial changes
- get support with moving
- access other services if you need extra help
You will also get higher priority on Newcastle Homes to help you find a new home more quickly.
Will I get a payment?
If you are accepted onto the scheme and move to a smaller home that meets your needs, you could receive up to £2,500. Some tenants may also qualify for an extra payment.
