The Supporting Independence Scheme (SIS) helps people in Newcastle who need support to live on their own. It gives help to people who are moving into a new home or need things to live safely and comfortably.
Who can get help
You can receive help from the scheme if you:
- live in Newcastle
- receive income-related benefits
- have savings under £500
- have tried all other ways to get help
The scheme is aimed at people who are:
- moving from homeless accommodation in Newcastle
- moving to avoid becoming homeless (for example, from asylum accommodation or hospital)
- already living in the community and cannot get the items they need in any other way
What you can get
The scheme can provide some basic household items, such as:
- beds
- cookers
- fridges
The amount of help depends on your needs and the situation you are in.
How to apply
You cannot apply for yourself. Your support worker must apply for you.
They can:
- fill in the form on Newcastle Gateway
- or email activeinclusion@newcastle.gov.uk to ask for a PDF form
