Getting council letters by email or text

We are making it easier for you to get letters from the council. You may receive letters by email or text if we have your email address or mobile number.

This means:

  • you’ll get letters faster
  • it’s better for the environment
  • you can open your letters on your phone, tablet or computer

How to know it’s really from us

We care about your safety. A real message from us will:

  • say it’s from Newcastle City Council
  • come from an email ending in newcastle.gov.uk
  • contain a unique link to your letter
  • ask for a password that only you know, it will be something you already have
  • not ask for any new personal information
  • not try to scare you
  • if something is important or needs doing soon, the letter will explain this clearly

If you are not sure:

  • don’t click any links
  • visit our website for more information
  • phone Newcastle City Council on 0191 278 7878 and ask for “Digital Post”
  • Action Fraud have more information about staying safe online

If you are unable to open your letter

  • check you've entered your password correctly. Use capital letters and include a space where needed
  • still unable to open your letter? Phone 0191 278 7878 and ask for “Digital Post”

Letters by post

You may still receive some important letters by post, when it is needed.

People who need printed information or people without an email or mobile number will still receive letters by post.
