Ways to pay your council tax bill

We have several different payment methods available to suit your needs. In order to make a payment you will need your 12 digit council tax reference number.

Trouble paying your council tax

Council tax is a priority debt and the income is used to fund essential services across the city so we take prompt action to recover unpaid taxes should an account fall in to arrears. Find out information on the recovery process and available help.

Tell us about a change

Tell us if you are moving into Newcastle, moving within the area, moving out of a property, if there has been a change to the person responsible for paying council tax or their name has changed.

Council tax for students

You may qualify for a discount or exemption on your council tax if you or the other people in your property are students. You will need to meet certain criteria to qualify.

Empty properties

Report a change of ownership or find out information on the discounts and exemptions available if a property you own is empty. Information is also available on charges that are applied on second homes and long term empty properties.
