Youth Council: Information for schools and youth groups

We encourage schools and youth organisations to help us ensure every young person knows about the Youth Council and Youth Parliament, and how get involved.

Getting involved might mean:

  • standing as a candidate
  • listening to what candidates have to say
  • voting

If you or the young people you work have other suggestions on how to help young people get involved please email the voice and influence team.

Supporting young people

We want as many young people to stand in our elections as possible. By doing that we can have elected bodies that celebrate the diversity and variety of skills found in Newcastle.

At this stage we would like to work with you to encourage young people between 11 and 17 years old to:

  • become candidates and stand in our elections
  • vote in our Youth Council and Youth Parliament elections

Volunteer to be a voting centre

You can help encourage young people to vote by volunteering your school, youth centre or venue as a voting centre on election day.

This is so young people have a number of options of where to go to vote for their preferred candidates.

Voting centres will be provided with all the equipment they need including:

  • voting rules and expectations
  • ballot boxes
  • candidate information
  • voting slips
  • promotional materials

These would all be delivered to you and collected again at the end of the process.

Register your interest

If you would like to be a voting centre please:

If you are needed we will then contact you directly with more information about how this will work nearer to election day.
