Cabinet is the part of the council that is responsible for most strategic decisions.

It includes the:

  • leader of the council
  • deputy leader
  • councillors with portfolio responsibilities

Decisions are either made by:

  • Cabinet
  • a committee of the Cabinet
  • individual Cabinet members
  • officers under powers delegated by Cabinet

After a council election

Following a council election the incumbent leader and deputy remain in post until at least the council's annual meeting a few weeks later.

Our annual meeting took place on 27 May 2026.

As political control of the council changed as a result of the election at the annual meeting:

  • a new leader and deputy were be appointed
  • the new administration's Cabinet was be formed
