Ways to pay your business rates bill

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the simplest, safest, most secure and reliable way to pay your business rates.

Apply to pay business rates by Direct Debit

Paying by Direct Debit allows you to:

  • select a convenient payment date.
  • spread your payments.
  • never miss a payment, as payment is automatically taken from your bank account when your bill is due.
  • save time queueing at the bank or writing cheques.

You can choose to pay on 1st or 16th of the month.

You can also request to spread your payments over 12 months between April and March. Bills issued part way through the financial year are not given 12 months. Instead we will spread the instalments over the remaining months until March. This will reduce the amount you pay each month.

Please email your request to business.rates@newcastle.gov.uk. You will need to quote your full business rates reference number. It begins with 69 or 70 and is on the top of your bill.

If you already pay by Direct Debit, you can change your arrangement and your bank details.

To pay by Direct Debit you’ll need your:

  • business rates reference number
  • bank account number and sort code

Please note, you cannot complete a Direct Debit mandate online if:

  • the business account needs more than one person to authorise debits
  • you are not an authorised signatory
