Request a business rates refund

You can request a refund if your business rates account is in credit.

You will need your existing business rates reference number to request a refund. This is on the top of your bill and starts with 69 or 70.

You can check your balance online by signing in or making a request to view your account online.

Manage your business rates account

If you’ve paid too much business rates, we’ll check if you have credit.

If you do not owe anything else to us, we’ll give you a full refund. Otherwise, we may use the credit to pay or reduce any outstanding balances.

You’ll get a refund automatically if you have an active Direct Debit and any of the following apply:

  • you’ve moved out of the area
  • you’re no longer responsible for business rates at another property
  • your account has been closed

If not, we’ll send you a credit notice so you can claim your refund.
