Newcastle Neighbourhoods Community Wellbeing Project

Newcastle Neighbourhoods is about working within and alongside people in their own neighbourhoods. Focusing on the assets and strengths within a community, and making connections between these in order to strengthen communities. This approach is called Asset Based Community Development (ABCD).

This approach means:

  • Investing in the assets that are in your community, this can be places like community buildings, or assets like community groups and networks.
  • Reviewing the ways we deliver our services or commission services at a neighbourhood level
  • Changing how our adult social care teams work so they are closer to local neighbourhoods.
  • Balancing our support with support from services in your neighbourhood as well as your own individual support networks.

Neighbourhood Networks

There are 4 Neighbourhoods in Newcastle:

  • North
  • East
  • Inner West
  • Outer West

The Community Wellbeing Team run regular Networking events to connect people across the health, social care, voluntary, community, housing, sport, leisure, uniformed services and social enterprise sectors.
