Context
In March 2026, HDRC Newcastle hosted two Connecting People, Connecting Ideas events, bringing together local authority, NHS, academic, VCSE partners and residents to explore collaborative research opportunities, that can help reduce the unfair and avoidable differences in health across the city.

Action
Through collaborative workshops, 14 research ideas were co-developed. Since then, HDRC Newcastle has supported progress by convening interested groups of people to explore the best next steps for a research idea.

Result
Several ideas are now gaining momentum and colleagues who would like to get involved with a research idea are welcome to email hdrc@newcastle.gov.uk to be connected to the relevant team member.
