Connecting People, Connecting Ideas (CPCI) impact: event connections lead to collaborative research bid

Connections made at the Connecting People, Connecting Ideas (CPCI) event have led to a collaborative research bid between Newcastle University and Newcastle City Council.

Context

After attending the CPCI event, Newcastle University researcher Prachi Bhatnagar connected with Newcastle City Council's Climate Change and Public Health Wider Determinants teams to develop a research proposal. The project aims to explore how net zero policies can better meet the needs of local communities and help reduce health inequalities.

Action

Building on these new relationships, Prachi worked with colleagues to develop the proposal. HDRC Newcastle provided a letter of support and helped involve key council staff in the bid. Together, they will support the development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based assistant that will help local authority officers consider health inequalities when designing and monitoring policies.

Result

The proposal has now been submitted, demonstrating how connections made through the CPCI event have developed into a collaborative research opportunity. By bringing together university researchers and local authority staff, the project has the potential to create new evidence and practical tools that support fairer and healthier approaches to delivering net zero policies.
