Choose where to have your ceremony, at Newcastle register office or an approved premises.

You can choose to have your ceremony in either Newcastle Civic Centre (in Newcastle Register Office or the Leazes Room) or an approved premises.

Approved premises

Civil (non religious) marriages and civil partnerships can take place in other buildings in Newcastle, apart from the register office, as long as they have been approved by us as a suitable venue. These venues include hotels, pubs and restaurants, and historic buildings.

Please do not confirm and pay for your venue until we have confirmed that we can provide a registrar to attend the ceremony. You can book a registrar up to 2 years in advance.

Register office

Newcastle Registration Service has two rooms:

  • the Register Office
  • the Leazes Room

The Register Office can host ceremonies attended by up to four people, including:

  • the couple
  • 2 witnesses

The Leazes Room can hold ceremonies for up to 50 people, including:

  • the couple
  • 48 guests

The Leazes Room is for ceremonies only – it does not provide any reception facilities.

When you can have your ceremony

We take bookings all year round.

Register Office and Leazes Room ceremonies are available Monday to Saturday.

Approved premise ceremonies are available Monday to Sunday and on selected bank holidays.

Deposits and fees

To secure a booking you'll need to pay:

  • a booking fee and deposit for an approved premise or the Leazes Room
  • a booking fee for the Register Office

This must be paid by card over the telephone using a debit or credit card, in your name, at the time of booking.

If you don't have a card or someone else is making the payment, we are happy to take a card payment from a friend or family member however you would need to call together so you could confirm your details. Then we would need to speak with the card holder to take the payment.

The booking fee and deposit is non-refundable. Once the payment has been taken we will send you a receipt for the service by email and also our card system will send you a receipt for the transaction.
