UK birth certificates always include the full name of a child’s mother.
But the mother can choose to register the birth without the child's father if they're not married or in a civil partnership.
If parents marry
If the natural parents of a child marry after their child is born, they must re-register the birth to:
- show the mother's marital status
- add the natural father’s details to the birth record
To re-register a birth if natural parents have married:
- complete form LA1 on Gov.uk
- book an appointment to re-register at Newcastle Register Office
