Health and social care advocacy

Advocacy is free, independent support that can help you to get your voice heard.  Advocacy is for people who have difficulty in understanding or taking part in decisions about their care and support.

Advocacy services: Support to get your voice heard

Advocacy organisations can match you with an independent advocate who is on your side if you need support. They can help you to:

  • use health and social care services
  • find information and understand what you want
  • understand your rights
  • get your views across at appointments and in assessments
  • make a complaint or appeal

There are local services that are contracted by Newcastle City Council to help you to get your voice heard.

Your Voice Counts provide the statutory advocacy services in Newcastle. This includes Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA), Independent Care Act Advocacy (CAA), NHS Independent Complaints Advocacy (ICA) and Relevant Persons Representative (RPR). Contact them for more information.
